Brain-computer interface (BCI) based on steady-state motion visual evoked potential (SSMVEP) can reduce user’s visual fatigue, but the signal intensity and system performance still cannot replace BCI based on steady-state visual evoked potential (SSVEP). Two directions about how to achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio of SSMVEP and the application of SSMVEP in BCI were reviewed. Firstly, three main factors affecting the induction and performance of SSMVEP were summarized, that was, motor visual stimulation mode, motor visual stimulation parameters and signal processing methods of SSMVEP. Then the application of SSMVEP in medical and other fields was introduced. Lastly, the present limitations of SSMVEP-BCI and the future development direction were proposed.
